An important new plan for improving housing opportunities in Greater Des Moines is now available as a draft for your review! This plan is the result of months of careful research, extensive stakeholder meetings, and nearly 2,000 community survey responses.
The plan, called the Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice is updated every five years by local governments that receive federal housing and homelessness funds. Locally, that includes Des Moines, West Des Moines, and Polk County. The plan sets the region's goals for removing barriers and improving local housing access for all people.
We encourage you to take this opportunity to explore the draft plan and share your thoughts. Visit the City of Des Moines website to view the draft plan and learn how to submit a comment. The City of Des Moines is accepting comments until October 27 and Des Moines City Council will hold a public hearing on the plan November 4 during its regular meeting.
This plan outlines strategies to address the challenges you helped identify if you participated in this year's Barriers to Housing and Community Needs Survey, such as affordability, accessibility, and ending discrimination. By working together, we can create a more equitable and inclusive community for everyone.
